Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (That Which Should be Buried)

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR FMA, BROTHERHOOD, DN ANGEL AND OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB)

Edward and Alphonse have another lead finding the stone.

Alchemy and Alkahestry researched by Scar’s brother reveals early research into the Philosopher’s Stone embedded in an ancient work of art. A work called The Black Wings. The origin is dated prior to Hohenheim's coming to Xing with his knowledge of Alchemy. It has been near a millennia since The Black Wings has been seen, as their research denotes, and the work has since been reduced to a mere legend, just as the stone.

Edward decides to borrow it without asking.

With Al’s rapport with May, and Ling owing Ed, Edward and Alphonse are allowed stalk the Hikari family history back to their home in Xing.

Just outside the small town, Al finds a white Turkish Angora kitten inside an abandoned box, with a collar that says "With".  Alphonse obviously squirrels it away in his body.

As they approach the Hikari's home, they realize they have yet to come across a single soul within the city. Edward persists this makes better for escaping. Al is apprehensive, but like always, follows Edward's lead.

Once inside however, Alphonse has a change of heart, and wants to wait for Edward and keep look out in case someone comes home. Ed says fine, whatever. Edward finds a door to what looks like a basement sealed by an alchemist.

He makes light work of breaking in.

Inside he finds The Black Wings among other ancient trinkets and objects. Someone had started the process to try once again to break the seal. They have abandoned the effort, however, not before the process began.

It has backfired. As the door closes, the skull fissures, the curse comes upon Ed and Ed alone.

The Black Wings invade Edward's body.

First words out of Dark’s mouth, “Why is the ground so close?” Edward implodes (he's just a consciousness now), “What did you just say to me??”

Through Al, With and Dark are reunited. Dark finds his clothes in the room, and takes them with him. As Ed and Dark fight, Krad’s personality comes up as part of Dark.

After about three weeks of constant fighting and destroying, Edward becomes too much to handle with this split personality he has yet to master, Ling and May are forced to send the boys back to Amestris.

Edward and Alphonse make their way to the Tringham family’s land. With their fields and open spaces, it gives Edward the space he needs if Dark’s unruly side (Krad) presents somehow and miraculously keep it secret.

During this time, Dark learns how to become one person, as Krad’s personality is still fresh and vivacious at first.  He learns about Amestris and how everything is different from the place he last presented. The Hikari family moved from his homeland to Xing, where it wasn’t as developed.

After another five months of trying to find out the secrets held by the living art and coming up empty, Edward is getting desperate. He’s begun assimilating with Dark and he doesn’t have much longer before he is lost. His body is not a viable vessel. Delirious, Ed is trying to get rid of them, and he is running out of time. Not only this, but whenever Edward uses alchemy, the fusion quickens.

Ed is frantically searching for more information about how to remove this curse as well as the connection to the Philosopher’s Stone. No information is known about how it was sealed in the first place, and Dark is too busy to tell him with his constant battling with his other side. Dark is finally able to share information four months into the search, unwillingly, when they assimilate enough to share memories.

After being subjected to each other’s memories Dark sees what Edward does and doesn’t do for and to Winry, Dark promises himself to never hurt another woman, or get close to one ever again.

Dark was always the more dominant of he and Krad, so Dark wins the personality dominance. Though Krad is still a part of him, he is integrated into one person again, which he learns how through Edward.

From Dark, Ed learned that there can only be certain vessels to house such persons, and the Hikari / Niwa families were a very short list.

Days after this discovery, Edward is reading Scar’s brother’s old diary, and he reads there’s a way to ‘heal one’s soul and body.’ Involving alchahestry/alchemy fusion, however it requires a body, and a living soul. Ed believes he could now transfer Dark’s soul without losing another limb or killing one or both of them. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to complete, because they don’t have a vessel that could contain Dark. Ed’s joy and despair is interrupted when Fletcher bursts into the room in a panic. On the opposite end of the room, Russell walks in with drinks. Fletcher extends out a lifeless child in his arms.

“Edward! Our cousin Tamaki, Help!”

Russell, of course is devastated to see baby Tamaki like this. As he looks to the floor in his desire to hide his feelings, his eyes fall on the open books there. One of them is another journal with a diagram on it. Calls to Edward’s attention, mentions one of his ancestors spoke of it, calling it a ceremony to destroy the body, but that Tamaki’s father could tell him more since his blood line includes both sides of the old legend.

Edward realizes this Tamaki Suoh had Niwa and Hikari blood in him.

“Edward, I know what you’re thinking, don’t do it. It could kill you.” - Dark

Edward takes Dark to Tamaki’s gate, uses the remainder of his gate to merge Dark to the lifeless body, the gate still takes its equivalence though. Because they are bonded, and starting to assimilate, something from both of them is taken. “the Truth” takes With and Dark’s transformation ability. From Ed it takes his height growth and his memory from the time he spent searching for The Black Wings.

Those watching see a flash of light, and baby Tamaki begins to cry.

“This is not the same Tamaki he was this morning. Your family holds many dark secrets, and this is no different. Tell your uncle to keep a better eye on Tamaki from now on.”

When Tamaki opens his eyes, his normally green eyes are now purple.

Because Dark is a magical “creature”, though he is in a mortal body now, his merger makes his body stop aging at the same age as when the curse is generally released.

The Suoh family is entrusted with Dark for all eternity. Each generation make their own story about Tamaki. Ukari’s was especially painful, but ultimately the best, with the turn of events with Haruhi.

Edward keeps Dark’s clothes as his are all ruined.

Tamaki leaving with Lady Eclair was giving him an escape from the others noticing he's no longer aging.

As Edward and Alphonse leave the Tringham property Alphonse says they should focus on the legend of the stone and only the stone from now on. Edward says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, and that that is what they’d been doing all along. Russell and Fletcher meet the two at the train station to give them a basket of lemons and a note.

PS. I know I’m crossing timelines…

Please, please PLEASE don't hate me for messing up the timelines with FMA! I know I'm taking bits from different places in the show, but since it is a separate entity, I'm hoping for some mercy on this. I love this concept, even if the ending is... well.... impossible. I hope it is enjoyed which is the purpose.

Hmm, I'm confused, I better read this after I watch the anime, right?
